San Juan River, June 2017

The first big adventure of the summer was a 7 day raft trip down the San Juan River in southeastern Utah. The Fleming Five along with Grandpas Glenn and Bunk joined 4 other families to float about 80 miles along part of the Bears Ears National Monument and Navajo Nation lands from near Bluff, UT to the take out at the upper end of Lake Powell.

A generous snow pack and a heat wave combined to give us more than enough water to get through the canyons. Most rapids were washed out and the main challenge was finding a calm enough place to park three 18 foot rafts, a 14 foot raft and several kayaks.

We managed the 100+ degree heat well with time in the water or shade in the afternoon. It was a great group of folks to travel and explore with.
