Spring Break - The North Florida Nostalgia Tour

Sam wanted to go back to Tallahassee to see his childhood home and some other sights so we made it happen this year for spring break before he flies the coop.

Spent the first few days on Dog Island with our friend Chip and his kids.

Found blooming pitcher plants in the Apalachicola National Forest on our drive from the coast back to Tallahassee.

Then we took up residence in Tallahassee for some touring and days on the water on the Wakulla and Wacissa Rivers.

On the trip home we stopped in Atlanta to visit Ms. Lynn. Sam cashed in on his Christmas present, a trip to see Atlanta United play Los Angeles FC in the new Mercedes Benz stadium.

Hero Night

Third grade does a big Expedition around Heroes. It builds from imaginary super powers to selecting a local 'hero' to interview and gather biographical information. It all culminates in a Hero Night reception at school.

The kids present their work and monuments. Jack interviewed a neighbor who is involved with Loving Food Resources (a food pantry for patients with chronic illness) and organizes the Kenilworth neighborhood clean up days.

Ford's hero coordinates the garden staff at The Lord's Acre, a community garden that donates fresh produce to local food pantries.

ALF 2018

Mid-March was time to return to Lenoir City, TN for the whitewater canoe gathering. Started off with a bang with a higher than normal tandem run on the Ocoee. Some other highlights were paddling the Little River under snow fall and a beautiful day on Clear Creek. It was a nice medium between the cold and/or dry recent years. A special thanks as always to the grandparent support team for making it possible for us to slip away.
