Columbus

Earlier this month Sam and dad traveled to Columbus, GA for a weekend of paddling and birthday celebrating with Sam's friends Olivia & Davis.

Saturday & Sunday morning they started the day with a clinic to work on playboating skills. The instructor is the head coach at Keeners, the camp the three kids are attending this summer.

Sam tries out his new skills on the wave.

Took me three tries but I found a canoe route at high water that didn't flip my canoe.

Florida Flotilla 2016

The day after Christmas we hit the road for the Sunshine state and a few days of camping and canoeing in and around the Ocala National Forest. We paddled Juniper Springs, Silver River, Salt Springs and the Ichetucknee River. It was a return to some of our old haunts but Juniper is a jewel that we hadn't caught before. Wonderful weather and a great group made for good memories.

Enjoying the shallow twists and turns of Juniper Springs

The crew at Silver River where we saw monkeys and manatees.

Swim time in Salt Springs

And our last day on the Ichetucknee

Thanksgiving 2016

A cozy weekend at the Lake Logan Episcopal Retreat Center at the invitation of Dandy and Grand-daddy Frank. And joined by Aunt Amy all the way from California.

Post-turkey hike to the waterfalls at Graveyard Fields

And capped with a trip to the summit of Mt. Pisgah on the way home.

Mt. Pleasant fall 2016

Ahead of Thanksgiving Ben, Ford & Jack made a trip south to catch up with Aunt Reba while she was visiting. It was beautiful weather for a walk at Fort Moultrie and on the beach. (Mame & Sam traveled to the Atlanta area for a soccer tournament.)
