Guatemala

Ever since she started nursing school, Mame has daydreamed of traveling abroad as part of a medical team to provide free care to the needy. The opportunity presented itself last month. A trauma surgeon here in Asheville (Dr. Arrillaga - to the right in the photo below) was planning to go to Guatemala but the original anesthesia team backed out. He put out a call to the CRNAs in Asheville and in less than a month Mame had a ticket to fly.

She departed last Saturday at the crack of dawn and caught up with the team in Guatemala City. By Sunday she was in Patzun for pre-op interviews (photo above). A day to day narrative and more photos are available at the trip blog at Faith in Practice.

Sam the Speller

Sam just missed the cut to represent Evergreen in the 3rd-5th grade charter school spelling bee on February 22. He will be preparing along with his class's representatives to serve as an alternate.
