Mommy's morning out

We enjoyed a stroll around Biltmore Village this morning after breakfast at the Corner Kitchen. The boys enjoyed waving and saying 'bye' to all passing cars.

Ford & Jack enjoying the new sand box. Thanks to big brother for helping to level the dirt and spread the sand. And mom for pulling weeds before the sand went in.

16 months

And they're growin' like kudzu on humid Southern summer days (Ford is on the right, Jack on the left). They are also walking at high speeds, climbing whenever they can, digging in the sand or dirt, babbling endlessly and starting to communicate with sign language. The last is a big improvement over shouting and crying.

The birthday month

Even though Sam's birthday isn't until the end of August the celebration got started early and just kept rolling.

We kicked off with a gathering at Slick Rock on the 15th. The weather was gray but the kids were able to get in some swimming time. Dandy provided a lemon pound cake, Grandma Maxine an applesauce cake & Sam and Grandpa Glenn churned up chocolate AND strawberry ice cream in the morning.

The Friday before the birthday day, Sam invited three friends from school for a round of putt-putt and then a little cook out at home, topped off with Excellent Sour cream muffins. (I'm not sure if this was a chicken dance or monkey imitations....)

When the actual day arrived on Monday, Sam took cookies to share with his classmates. And for the last blast he got to go on a special date with mom. He has been curious to try escargot so they went downtown to Bouchon to quench his curiosity (and to take advantage of all you can eat mussels). He loved it. Next year they're looking for a restaurant with frog legs.
