Open house
Or as it is called these days, Family Fun Night, was tonight. Sam and the first graders sang for the assembled crowd. Then he gave us a tour of his classroom including a reading of Sammy the Seal. The night-time story had the desired effect on Jack.
welcome the world of solids
Well, at least semi-solid. Ford and Jack started their introduction to the world outside of breastmilk this week. We started off with rice cereal and last night introduced carrots. Ford has really taken to eating from a spoon but as evidenced by this photo also enjoys spreading dinner around.
Jack on the other hand didn't have a very favorable first reaction.

Adventurers everywhere
While I sneaked off Saturday to canoe on the French Broad, Mame and the boys went for a hike with Aunt Patty and Cousin Livi in the Bent Creek area of Pisgah National Forest. The weather for the hikers was perfect, mostly sunny and not too cool. The paddlers on the other hand got gloomy, grey skies and a breeze. But even with the dreary conditions it was great to get back on the river.
It was Jack and Ford's first time in the baby backpacks and they did great. More adventures to come.
Sunday Los Flemings trekked up to Mt. Mitchell for some of the last of the fall color and dinner at the restaurant in the state park.
The drive up the Blue Ridge Parkway was beautiful and we got relatively clear skies for views from the top.
Altogether on the observation tower at the peak.

20 years later
Los Flemings trekked to Mt. Pleasant this weekend for a visit and Ben's 20th high school reunion.
One friend, Guy, made it all the way from Bozeman, MT. We caught up with him and his kids Saturday morning for a walk in the park.
The main event was Saturday night and we had a nice time. Mame finally got to put faces to some of the stories.
Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for taking on all three boys for the evening!
Sunday was gourmet brunch at 674 Pawley with the Del Benes. Here's Dr. Vic with Ford....
And Mrs. Del Bene with Jack.
(both babies are working on their two lower front teeth - therefore the constant companionship of plastic chew toys)

All systems go
Ford and Jack went in yesterday for their 4 month check up (we were a little late) and got a clean bill of health and another round of immunizations. Both boys are now 14 lbs. and a little over 24" long. Thanks to Dandy for helping out while mom was at work.
This morning they were having some wiggle time on a blanket. I looked down and they had ended up parallel to one another with their heads opposite each other. And, in a sign of things to come, they each grabbed the others foot and tried to munch on the visiting toes.
