Recent visitors

Grandma Maxine and Aunt Barbara came for a stroll around the neighborhood. The added bonus was an encounter with one of the more established gardeners in the neighborhood who gave us a tour of his yard.

Then Uncle Jake had a day off and came up to meet his newest nephews.

We even got a visit from Kathleen, a Heartwood friend, who was in town visiting family.

Music in the afternoon

Sam was helping me out this afternoon while mom got a nap. Jack and Ford were settled in to their chairs when Sam decided to give them a little concert and repositioned them for better acoustics.

A great first season

Today was the last fixture in the Cheetah 3's season. Sam had a great time and is already looking forward to next season. I've got to give coach Ed credit, everyone made some progress this season. The kids were starting to control the ball better and to look up to see where they wanted to go. Next stop is a week of soccer camp this summer.

The firework kiss

Tonight after dinner Sam was in an affectionate mood and checking in with his little brothers. He's been blowing them kisses but got a new idea all of the sudden. He would stand back from Jack or Ford make a rocket sound, send his hands up over his head, make an exploding sound and then open his fingers. The fingers would then come down gently on a brother's head. He said that way each kiss turned into five. It got gradually more elaborate with Sam starting on the other side of the dining room and sending kisses that landed and then exploded again. He'd probably still be at it if we didn't send him off for his evening bath.

Who's who?

It seems to be getting a little harder to tell the two dudes apart, especially in profile (answer below).

We've had a good week getting settled back in at home. Dandy was here and did a great job of filling our bellies and our fridge with good eats. She also handled school transportation for Sam, who had quite a week adjusting with new brothers in the house. He was disrupted enough that last Tuesday he fell asleep at the table during writing workshop. We gave him an alarm free morning on Wednesday and set him up in the basement as Dandy's roommate to get more sleep. It all seems to have worked and by the end of the week we were getting back into our routine.

Headquarters

Saturday Jr., Jr. Agents Ford and Jack joined Jr. Agent Sam as permanent residents of Los Flemings World Headquarters.

It took some effort but Mame and I were able to get everyone packed up and home by early afternoon while Sam and Grandpa Bunk hit the soccer field. Now if we can all just get a little more sleep.

Day Three

It's been two eventful days for Jack, Ford and the rest of Los Flemings. On Thursday the boys went through their hearing screening and got their first baths. Meanwhile, Sam's class went on a field trip to the WNC Nature Center (thanks to Grandma Maxine for taking over on school transportation and other duties at home).

Friday involved more poking and prodding by doctors and nurses for the twins. Everybody is doing great and clearing all the necessary hurdles in order to get sprung from the joint on Saturday. Lost weight has started to come back and their color is good. Mame was up and about more today and took a stroll around the floor with Sam at the driver's wheel of the bassinet.

Next stop, home.

Welcome boys

Jack Ramsey and Ford Ross Fleming were safely delivered this afternoon - just shy of 1:30. Both were about 6 and a half pounds and doing great. Mom is feeling good too (and relieved to be free of twelve pounds of boy).

Sam is ecstatic and held one brother or the other from the time he arrived around 3 p.m. until going off to dinner at 7.

This is it

Our OB docs met earlier this week for their weekly discussion of interesting cases - and we qualified. Mame's doc reported on her last check up and they decided that it would be prudent to move up the date of delivery. And today is the day. We're off to the hospital in a matter of minutes and should be rolling into the operating room around noon. Watch this space...

the swinger

Thanks to Grandpa Glenn, we've got a swing set now. Some neighbors in Mt. Pleasant had grown out of theirs and Grandpa got the offer that if we'd haul it, we could have it. Grandpa did the dismantling and then we reassembled it in our backyard. This week Sam and I finished making swing seats. He helped cut, sand, drill and coat the seats. Many, many thanks to grandpa for helping to make this happen.

Then, Uncle Jake visited this weekend and went for a swing.
