Our new digs

Here are some exterior pictures of our new house in Asheville. We've been calling it our 'forever' house in the hopes that we won't have to move again. Although, Mame is already eying a smaller stone house a few doors up the street for our retirement home.

For those who haven't already heard the story, the house was originally built in 1950 as a one story bungalow with a basement. The previous owners, he is a general contractor, tore it down to the studs, reinforced the basement and added a second story in 2007. It is essentially a new home. In the picture above, the door in the center is the original entryway. The porch to the left is new along with the kitchen behind.

Another attraction to the particular house is that it sits on two lots, which is unusual for this older neighborhood. We actually have some yard and Sam is already plotting with Grandpa Glenn for a play set. There is also a nice terraced garden space along the south side of the house and we're getting geared up for some spring planting.

In this last picture you can get a glimpse of the exterior door into the basement. There is a guest room and full bath down there, so there is plenty of space for visitors - once we get the last of our boxes out of the way. So come on over and enjoy the mountains.

The move

Our move from west to east is complete. We and our possessions are now in our 'forever house' as Sam likes to call it. We owe big thanks to Grandpa Glenn, Grandma Maxine, Grandpa Bunk, Uncle Jake and Uncle Ross for all of their help. We rented a truck Friday morning and had it back before 4 p.m. We're still sifting through boxes but with all the help we are now beginning to feel like it's home. Thanks also to Dandy and Granddaddy Frank for Saturday night's dinner.

(pictures are on the way once we get a little more settled and I can locate the camera)

a little morning music

Last Saturday Sam let mom sleep in and entertained himself for awhile on the keyboard. He's really enjoying his piano lessons, so much that he told me it was his favorite thing.
I asked, "even better than ice cream?"
First he said, "yes" but then qualified that statement and said he would eat his ice cream and play the piano at the same time.

Go Bulldogs

Sam and I attended his first UNC Asheville basketball game on Saturday afternoon. He is now a Bulldogs fan. It helped that they were victorious over Charleston Southern.

Meanwhile, Mame and Dandy treated themselves to a trip to the movies to the The Reader.

Snow day (version 1.3)

We got more snow this week starting Tuesday night. School was out Wednesday and Thursday. We got word Wed. afternoon about Thursday cancellation and got connected with Dandy who wanted to take Sam snow-tubing. So, we made the hand-off Wednesday night and Thursday he hit the slope in Maggie Valley. Sam had a blast!

Graduation sushi

Mame's brother, Ross, promised her a sushi dinner for graduation from nurse anesthesia school. He delivered on that promise Friday. He drove over from Sylva with Frank and Donna and we had a very nice meal at Green Tea Sushi (as Sam likes to say, it is home of the angry sushi chef - see their web page, upper left corner). Now he knows how close we are to his clients in TN and we hope to see more of him.
