Mobile man
Sam has been taking an afterschool art class for a couple of months now at Richmond's Studio.
The first session focused on mobile's and culminated in the creation to the left. It was submitted as an entry to the Black Mountain College Museum's 2nd annual Mobiles over Asheville auction. It was titled, "Things We Found Walking Around." Sam is standing with his teacher Ms. Martha. (You can click on the picture to get more detail.)
Friday night we all went to the auction and had a great time. His team's mobile was the first auctioned and went for $50. Sam also got to bid on mobiles by other artists. One is now hanging in his window and another in our living room.

Snow day
We woke up Friday to this wintry scene and no school. The snow was very dry and powdery. Sam busied himself collecting a bucket-full for some as-yet-determined future use. He tucked it in a shadowy corner where thanks to cold temperatures it hasn't melted too much.
After playing in the snow for awhile we walked up to the store for hot chocolate and donuts to help get thawed.

A couple of peachy visitors
Friends Lynn and Robin made the trip up this weekend from Atlanta for a visit. Saturday the ladies, all friends from an early age in Tallahassee, stimulated the local economy. They dined and shopped their way around downtown Asheville including lunch with Dandy at Tupelo Honey Cafe.
Meanwhile, Sam and I met up with Grandma Maxine for a hike in the Pisgah National Forest on the Sycamore Cove trail.
Sunday's clear but crisp hike was to Stairstep Falls in the Green River Game Land. The temperature was low but the skies were clear. We got some very nice views of the Green River gorge and surrounding peaks now that most of the leaves have fallen.
(Now we'll spend the week recuperating from all the good activities and late night chatting.)

Just a box
... is all it takes for hours of entertainment.
Thanks to Dandy for sharing in the midst of her remodeling project.
Happy Birthday Grandpa Glenn
We celebrated on Sunday afternoon at Slick Rock with a delicious meal, the traditional apple sauce cake and a tour of the pond in his new birthday present.
Sam took a turn too.

Halloween
It may be Sam's favorite holiday. This year we created a skeleton costume using glow in the dark paint on black sweats. Christina (the princess in the middle) and Francesca (as an 'old fashioned girl') joined us for trick or treating.
In the afternoon at school there was a Halloween celebration in Sam's classroom. Thanks to Maxine, Jim and Jane for coming to help with the activities - like the crafts....
and a huge spread of treats.
