The latest weekend visitor
Friday we welcomed our friend Lynn to Cary - all the way from Atlanta. It was also Sam's last day at Heartwood for the school year. His summer vacation starts tomorrow. We've been talking about it but we don't think he fully comprehends that it means he won't be spending his days with all of his little buddies. Here he is enjoying his hot dog at the cookout on the last day of school.
Friday evening we enjoyed some cooler weather on the patio. Sam even got to stay up late enough to chase the bug lights (translation - fireflies) in our backyard.
Saturday morning we checked out the Animal Planet Expo out at the Soccer park and in the evening we drove over to Durham for our first Bulls game. Unfortunately, the home team was not victorious but we still had a good time. Sam especially enjoyed his sno-cone.
Mostly, it got me wistful for our days in Tallahassee as this is the first weekend of the college baseball tournament. Which, for about six years, meant that we were in the stands at Dick Howser cheering on the Seminoles. At least we made it to a baseball game.
And for our last hurrah, we took Lynn to our favorite ice cream spot, Goodberry's, on the way to the airport for one last treat. Thanks for the visit Lynn.

Haw River
Last Saturday we joined a sizable group from the Lumber River Canoe Club for a trip down the Haw River. The river was low and just barely runnable but it was a warm sunny day and made for great swimming weather. There are some minor rapids and we had fun picking our way through the big rocks. After one swim break, Sam got a little chilled and decided bask in the sun like a snake.
